Two men charged by UK court after English Channel deaths

Two men in Britain have been charged with immigration offenses in connection with the investigation into the deaths of five migrants, including a child, who attempted to cross the English Channel.

Yien Both, a 22-year-old from South Sudan, faces charges for aiding illegal immigration and attempting to enter the UK without valid entry clearance.

Tajdeen Adbulaziz Juma, a 22-year-old Sudanese national, is also charged with attempting to enter the UK without valid entry clearance.

Both men are in custody and are scheduled to appear at Folkestone Magistrates' Court later.

The National Crime Agency is collaborating with Kent Police, Immigration Enforcement, and Border Force to support the French-led investigation into the incident on a beach near Wimereux in northern France on Tuesday.

An 18-year-old man from Sudan has also been arrested concerning the incident and is currently on bail pending further investigation.

The dinghy, carrying over 100 people, departed from Wimereux around 6 a.m. on Tuesday but encountered difficulties.

The French coastguard reported that three men, a woman, and a girl died during the incident.

While 49 people were rescued, 58 others refused to leave the boat and continued their journey toward the UK. The French coastguard stated that several other boats later embarked on similar crossings.
