Egypt is set to face Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers

According to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), Egypt will play against Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau in the African 2026 World Cup qualifiers on 7 and 10 June, respectively.

Egypt's national football team, the Pharaohs, is set to host Burkina Faso for the third round of the African 2026 World Cup qualifiers on June 7, followed by an away match against Guinea-Bissau on June 10. This was confirmed by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) on Thursday.

Interestingly, this is the first time that FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are overseeing the scheduling of the World Cup qualifiers, a task previously managed solely by domestic football associations.

Egypt has been drawn into Group A along with Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Sierra Leone. Currently, the Pharaohs are leading the group, having earned six points from two matches. They kicked off the campaign with a resounding 6-0 victory over Djibouti, followed by a 2-0 win against Sierra Leone in November 2023.

These upcoming qualifiers will mark the first official games for Hossam Hassan as head coach. The 57-year-old Egyptian football icon took over from Rui Vitoria in February after the Pharaohs' disappointing exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Round of 16. With Hassan at the helm, fans are hopeful for a successful qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup.
